Car Talk first airs.
1977
It is produced by WBUR Radio. Tom Magliozzi is the only one of six mechanics to accepts an invitation by WBUR to provide automotive advice to the radio audience. He returns a week later for another show, and the week after that with his brother Ray. Both are graduates of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and had earlier operated a do-it-yourself garage called Hacker’s Haven, which was subsequently converted to the more traditional Good News Garage. The show is picked up by National Public Radio in 1987. Live broadcasts of the show continue until October 2012. It continues using edited taped editions of previous shows today.
